At a gathering of old Hackensack High School alumni at the Maywood Inn in December 2013, I gave a veteran form to Edward Joseph Purcell to fill out about his military service. 

Edward wrote he attended Hackensack High School from 1962 to 1965.  After graduation he joined the Army and served from February 1, 1966 to
January 5, 1968.

  
Edward J. Purcell writes he reached the rank of E5 in what area is not stated.  Edward gave a form to his brother, Richard K. Purcell, who also grew up in Hackensack and attended Fairmount School before going to Catholic school.
